Pig Hygiene

Anybody who has ever had a pig (and a lot of people who haven’t) knows that one of their favourite activities (next to eating, and really, it is just another form of eating) is rooting in the dirt. Dancer LOVES to root in the dirt and spends lots of time investigating the entire property with his nose.

Inevitably, when he returns, his snout is covered in dirt and he is looking for attention and affection. This is where a pool comes in handy.

He already knows the drill … jump in the pool … and wait for the treats. I usually use Cheerios for treats, but they float easily and don’t allow for a good dunking … so for this game/job, I have a container of mixed dog food and pig pellets, which Dancer loves, and which sink.

A quick survey of the bottom to see where those tasty bits went …

And in we go!!

And already that snout is cleaner!!

He knows there are more down there though …

and he won’t quit until he has scoured the bottom of that pool for every edible bit!!

He blows bubbles so that he can eat the treats without inhaling a lot of water.

He is very diligent … searching, bubble blowing and eating …

Until finally there are no more treats …

But just check out that clean snout … all ready for more rooting so we can do this fun activity all over again!!
