Tomatoes

Yesterday morning I picked these beauties from my garden! The two varieties of red ones are pretty normal … but I have never seen giant yellow tomatoes before and I have been looking forward to tasting them.

The biggest one was soooooo big that i just had to measure and weigh it … it was about 5 inches in diameter and weighed in at a whopping pound and a half!!! The smaller one was 3/4 of a pound, exactly half the size.

It was perfectly ripe and when i cut into it, I was surprised to find that it had no holes!! I guess that accounts for the weight.

I sliced up a little less than half of it to serve with our lunch. I took one bite and didn’t want anything but more tomato!! WHAT FLAVOR!! I can say, without any doubt whatsoever, that this is the best tasting tomato i have EVER EATEN!! The flavour is not acidic at all … just pure sweet rich tomato.

For dinner, I ate the best toasted tomato sandwich that i have ever eaten. And one fat slice was all it took!

I have been out all day today, but dinner tonight will be another toasted tomato sandwich.

Given the number of these tomatoes that are still out there ripening on the vine, I have a feeling i will be pigging out on tomato for the next while
